Frequently Asked Questions

How do I order?

Before you can order your cake, we need to meet so that you can taste some cakes and we can come up with the perfect design together.  Usually this is in our kitchen studio in Kingston upon Thames, but if this is difficult we can meet somewhere mutually convenient.  Saturdays get very busy delivering cakes, but weekday evenings are usually possible if daytime is difficult.  Please use our contact form to arrange.

How long before my event should I order?

We're not trying to be difficult, but this is like answering 'how long is a piece of string'!!  As we are a small bespoke company, we would usually only make one cake on a given day so you have our undivided attention!  So we could easily be booked up 18 months ahead, but we might sometimes be available in a month's time. The message is basically, if you want us to make your cake it is never too soon to meet!

What flavours can my cake be?

We are always open to new suggestions, but the flavours that we have found to be the most successful are:

cake: vanilla, belgian chocolate, lemon, almond, carrot, red velvet, white chocolate, ginger, lemon&lavender, traditional fruitcake

filllings: chocolate ganache, vanilla buttercream, lemon buttercream, raspberry buttercream, along with a multitude of preserves, jams and curds

Your cake can have as many flavours as it has tiers, although most people stick to 2 or 3 flavours.

Can you cater for special diets and allergies?

All of our cakes contain butter, gluten (wheat) and eggs and are made in an environment that handles nuts, soya and alcohol.  Nut-free, dairy-free, gluten-free or egg-free cakes can be made on request, but we cannot guarantee that these cakes will not contain trace amounts of these ingredients due to the nature of production.

Do you make cupcakes and cookies?

Yes we love making all kinds of sweet goodies.  Usually these will be to coordinate with a main cake as part of a dessert table or favours, but please enquire if you have something else in mind.

How much will it cost?

As all of our cakes are designed to order, this is an difficult question to answer until we have a design to work from!  As a rough guide, a 3 tier naked cake costs from £250-£350 and a 3 tiered iced cake from £350-£650, but this could be significantly more, depending on exact sizes and the decoration required for your design.  It really is best to discuss this at your no-obligation consultation, after which we can send you an accurate quote.  Alternatively we can give you an approximate figure if you email us with an idea of what you want.

How big will my cake need to be?

There are so many factors that can affect this, that it is better to discuss this at our meeting.  We can quote the catering chart that tells us a 3 tier cake could serve 120 guests, but it depends how you are serving the cake (as dessert or just taster portions) and even what flavour it is (a rich, dense fruitcake will cut into much smaller portions than a light fluffy victoria sponge).

How does delivery work?

We will liaise with your venue or wedding planner to arrange a set up time on the day that works for you.  Sometimes we will need to liaise with the florist as well, but once you have given us the contact details, we will sort it out!  Delivery is free within a 5 mile radius of Kingston upon Thames, and on a mileage and time basis beyond that.

Can you recommend other suppliers?

Having worked in the wedding industry for over 6 years, we have of course met some amazing suppliers who we are only too happy to recommend.  Whether it's flowers, make up, dresses, venues, photographers..... just ask us for our favourites!
